Sorry
I've been neglecting this bad boy lately, but I'm going to do some actual posting in the near future. I'm buffing out my list for top albums of 2010 right now (how original, right?) and I'll do some other updates in the life of Stiche.

Another reason to love the internet
Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune fame has a twitter account and it's awesome. I want to qualify that statement by pointing out I don't dig twitter and am usually not impressed by the concept. I also want to point out that I could care less about Wheel of Fortune (unless they somehow had a crossover event with Soldier of Fortune).
That said, here are some choice tweets.
-"Had to punch out particularly annoying contestant at taping today. Went down in a heap. Might have to edit out."
-"Tweeting from set of Wheel during commercial. Having a really great tape session! Hope no one checks my "water" glass."
-"Just read my nephew to sleep with his favorite book. But shouldn't a 31-year-old be able to read "Mein Kampf" by himself?"
I had no idea Pat Sajak was such a subversive and funny guy.

The Power Elite
It's hard for me to put my finger on why I enjoy Deadmau5's new album 4x4=12. It's getting mediocre reviews from professionals, I can't stop listening to it. It might be because Deadmau5 is still clinging (just barely) to his minimalist tenancies from past releases and the fact it's practically dripping in house and full of throbbing beats which bring to mind Daft Punk which is something I can never say no to.
A stream is up before it's release on Tuesday if anyone is interested in checking it out.
http://www.themusicninja.com/stream-deadmau5-4x412-album-review/
It isn't a difficult album to get into and it would be easy to fault it for being simple, but that's alright with me especially with finals coming up and a need to zone out for hours at a time while studying.

All Day
(This is as close to what I saw as I could find on a quick search)
I saw my first sun dog this morning on the way to class today. It was hard to make sense of what I was looking at when I first noticed something was up, but after a 100 minutes of zoning out of history class, I was able to remember what it was I saw.
It was really quite beautiful and it makes me want to wake up early in the near future to catch another glimpse of one sometime soon.

Island Mix
We've all thought about it. What 5 albums would we take with us if we were stranded on a desert island that somehow had a PA system rigged up and a little waterfall nearby to generate enough power to run it. It's difficult to choose only 5 albums for anybody to listen to in a given week, let alone for years on an island, but I thought I would give it a shot...
In no particular order, my island 5.
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Mastodon - Leviathan
Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
Radiohead - Kid A
Honorable mentions...
Slayer - Reign in Blood
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Elliott Smith - Either/OR
The entire Beatles back catalog.
What would make your list?

I Didn't Know
Holy shit, C. Wright Mills is a badass. All you need to know is that he was a straight up gangsta in the world of sociology in the 1950s. If you want to read some insightful shit, check out his masterpiece, The Power Elite, at your local library.

Brian Wilson is a badass
This past weekend was Halloween and as far as I'm concerned, it's probably societies best opportunity for people to get shitty drunk, dress up in extravagant/lazy costumes, and overall make a mess of the city next to a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" screening.
That said, I was quite impressed with what Fargo/Moorhead was able to pull off in terms of costumes considering there is always the possibility of frostbite whenever one goes outside after mid-October. I saw quite a few Tom Cruises from Risky Business as well as more than a handful of Flying Spaghetti Monsters, but they paled in comparison to the best costumes of the night. As I was leaving a bar and on my way to another one sometime after midnight, I looked to my right and saw a group of guys decked out in straight up Beatles clothing and hair circa "A Hard Day's Night" run into another group of Beatles only they were dressed up in "Sergeant Pepper's" gear.
Seeing the two groups bump into each other an stare each other down before continuing on their way made my night. I wonder how many times that happened elsewhere that night...
Anyways, post a description of the best costume you saw at any point during Halloween weekend.

First Snow
In a little under an hour, it will have been 3 years since the last post of the Manly Mustache blog
For a little over a year and a half, the blog was a source of inspiration and humor beyond anything that I could fathom at that time in my life. Was it juvenile? Yeah. Was it ridiculous? Yeah. Was it awesome? Hell yeah.
To be honest the only reason I started this blog was to attempt to replicate the magic that was found within the Stache blog and even though The Stiche Corner has been in many ways a failure in those regards, it was still worth a shot because it was such a noble thing to shoot for.
I'm not sure what the point of this post was (a sober post nonetheless) other than a fond remembrance of a blog that was a god among men in the blogosphere.

I've got 20 bucks or so burning a hole in my pocket. Do you guys have any good album recommendations?

Say Yes
Today is the 7th anniversary of the death of Elliott Smith and I can say without a doubt that he is one of my absolute favorite musical artists. One way that his music was described to me before I listened to him for the first time was take The Beatles pop sensibilities and mix it with the acoustic styling of Nick Drake and doused in depression. If you've never heard of his work before, you owe it to yourself to listen to a track or two online and if you enjoy it, pick up his album Either/Or or his self titled.

Stiche Recommendation
There is a very good chance that The Tallest Man on Earth's "The Wild Hunt" will be my album of the year. It's been on nearly constantly since April and it's still ridiculously beautiful and enjoyable. It's just so damn good.

Take a swim with me
It's been a good week. Last Friday I was lucky enough to snag a free ticket to a Trampled By Turtles concert and I've got to admit, it was a really sweet show. I'm not much of a bluegrass fan for the most part, but somehow they put on a show that was exciting and it made me question my thoughts on the genre which is a very difficult thing for any band to do.
Here's their video from their newest album, Palmino
On Saturday afternoon, I managed to finally go to The Social Network and I have to say that it really might be the best film of the year. The acting was spot on for all of the roles, and the dialogue was ridiculous. Somehow a film was made about a website and it was amazing. I remember laughing to myself when I first heard that a film was green lit that was based around the founding of Facebook.
The film's soundtrack was done by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (of NIN fame) and the soundtrack was dark and foreboding in such a way that it quite possibly was the perfect compliment to the film which was based around jealousy, genius, and betrayal. It's the first soundtrack I've picked up since the Batman Forever Soundtrack...
And finally, I'm going to Jackass 3D in about two hours. It's easily one of the guiltiest pleasures I have these days behind hookers and cock fighting, but there's no sense fighting it. I know I'll see a lot of shit and a ridiculous amount of male nudity, but that's alright. I'm ready to have sore ribs from laughing so hard.

Shameless Plug
First of all, I'd like to thank Stich for the excellent work he continues to do here at The Corner, and for giving this announcement his seal of approval.
After casually throwing the idea out a few times before, Kubas and myself have finally decided to get back into the whole blogging thing.
In our return to the blogosphere, we've started our own little blog here.
So come for the stories. Stay for the buns.

Seriously?
It's October already? Where the fuck is my life going all the sudden?
Life updates
- Eastbound and Down is back and my life is now as close to complete as it ever will be now that I can watch Kenny Powers' exploits from the comfort of my home on HBO.
- Homecoming was a 16 hour drunken odyssey of epic proportions. 'Nuff said.
- I'm trying to brainstorm for the last Halloween costume I'll ever wear because once you're out of college, Halloween is pretty much over. Thoughts? Ideas?

I've been reading Married To The Sea comics for a while, but this one caught me off guard and I thought I should share it.
In other Stiche news, I'm surprisingly excited for The Social Network. I know that it's probably nothing like how Facebook was really created, but I'm still intrigued. Plus, who doesn't love Justin Timberlake. He fucking made Bye Bye Bye.

Another First
I never thought in a million years (or at least through these first 21) that I would willingly watch c-span, let alone c-span 3 (seriously, they have 3?). Well, today Stephen Colbert went to Capital 'effin Hill and spoke on behalf of the plight of migrant farm workers and I'm guessing it'll be the last time unless there is a hearing dedicated to more guitar solos. Anyways, watching Colbert in a legit hearing, both in and out of character was simply awesome.
Was it a good idea to put this guy on real TV instead of just comedy central? Did he make a legit point? yeah. I think he did

Nuke the dolphins
On Sunday I finally managed to cross off another item on my bucket list (it's never too early to start planning for something like that especially with 2012 right around the corner) and made it to a Minnesota Vikings game when they took on the Miami Dolphins.
First off I'll say that the Vikings blew it and they didn't look very good out there, but if you take away the loss and the piss poor playing all around (the Dolphins were terrible as well)and the fact I was wearing a Sidney Rice jersey when he was still sidelined, it was a pretty fucking sweet time. I had been to a handful of Twins games when they used to be played in the Metrodome, but when you see how it's set up for the Vikings, you can really tell that it was built with football in mind. It was loud as fuck and one could really see the look of fury in Jared Allen's eyes when he was coming around for a tackle.
I'm not giving up on the Vikings already in the season even though they're 0-2 and people are pissed off that Favre wasn't playing very well and that Childress is a terrible play caller, but I'm still hanging in there and giving them the benefit of the doubt.
I just hope we don't go 0-3

Space Cadet
I suppose I should explain myself as to why I haven't posted in over half a fucking year on the blog that bears my name. Part of me says fuck it, it's better to not tell anybody and keep it all mysterious and shit like some sort of a magician, but then I realize that's just silly.
I guess the main reason I haven't posted on this blog in quite some time is that second semester last year really blew when it came to homework. I spent most of my time either in the library rocking my clinical homework, at clinicals saving lives, or getting drunk whenever I wasn't in class. With that sort of a setup, it really didn't let my creative juices flow.
Anyways I'm going to try to keep this train wreck going for a bit longer. I hope to have some good stories to embellish on this bad boy now that I don't have class on Friday anymore, but we'll see how it goes
